Why the apps disappoint at this stage of life
Dating apps are built around volume. They reward quick judgments based on photos and a few lines of text, and they are designed to keep you on the platform rather than in a relationship. For someone in their twenties, that can feel like a game. For someone with a full life, a career behind or ahead of them, and a clear sense of what a good partnership looks like, it mostly feels like work with very little to show for it.
There is also the privacy problem. Many people over 50 have a business, a reputation, adult children, or a public role in a city the size of Kelowna. Having your profile visible to colleagues, clients, and half the people you know is not a small thing to ask. Discretion matters, and the apps offer almost none of it.
What actually works at 50 and beyond
At this stage of life, most people are not looking for more options. They are looking for the right introduction. The approach that works is slower and more deliberate: a real conversation about your life and what you want from it now, careful vetting of anyone you are introduced to, and introductions chosen by a person who has met both of you and thought hard about the fit.
That is what a matchmaker does, and it is why matchmaking tends to serve this age group particularly well. The search is handled for you. Nobody is handed a database to scroll through, because browsing profiles is exactly the experience people come to us to escape. We actively search and vet on your behalf, and we only arrange an introduction when we believe there is a genuine basis for one.
If you are weighing whether the process is right for you, our guide to what happens in a matchmaking consultation walks through the first conversation in detail.
How Signature Introductions works
Signature Introductions is a private matchmaking practice in Kelowna, run by Sam and Hailey Hull, the team behind Speed Dating Kelowna. The process starts with an application, followed by a private 90 minute consultation where we get to know you properly: your life, your history, and what you want this chapter to look like.
After the consultation comes thorough vetting, including personal character references. That applies to you, and it applies to everyone you might meet through us. Then the search begins. Introductions are hand-picked, arranged personally, and followed up on. We stay in close communication throughout, and members also have access to a private member portal and monthly member events where they can meet other members in a relaxed setting.
Membership is a single tier at $300 a month with a three month minimum. There are no five figure contracts and no obligation to continue beyond the minimum term. You can read more about how that compares to industry pricing in our article on how much a matchmaker costs in Kelowna.
About the people behind the practice
Speed Dating Kelowna has been running for a year and a half, with more than 100 events and a community of over 3,000 local singles. Running those rooms teaches you a great deal about what makes people comfortable, what makes an introduction land, and what does not. Signature Introductions grew out of that experience, for the people who told us they wanted something more personal and more private than an event.
The work has been recognised locally: Gold for Best New Business and Bronze for Best Event Planner at the Best of Kelowna 2026 awards, and Hailey received Bronze for Best Customer Experience at the Peaks to Vines awards. We mention that not to boast, but because trust matters when you are handing someone a part of your life this personal. You should know who you are dealing with.
What an introduction actually looks like
There is no group event to perform at and no profile of yours circulating anywhere. When we believe two members are a genuine fit, we arrange a simple, low pressure meeting, often a coffee or a glass of wine, at a time that suits you both. Afterwards, we check in with each of you privately. Your feedback shapes what happens next, whether that is a second meeting or a refined search. You are never handed a list of names and left to figure it out alone, and you are never introduced to someone simply because they were available. Patience is part of the service. A considered introduction every so often is worth far more than a stream of maybes.
A note on starting again
Many of our conversations begin with someone who has been out of dating for a long time, after a long marriage, a loss, or years of focusing on family and work. That is not a disadvantage. People who come to this thoughtfully, knowing what they value, tend to do very well. There is no timetable you are behind on, and there is nothing to catch up on. There is only the question of whether you would like to meet someone, and whether you would like help doing it well.
If the answer is yes, the first step is simple and private.
